Constitution Day Celebrated at Phenix Elementary

Constitution Day Celebrated at Phenix Elementary School

Friday, September 17th was Constitution Day.  This day, established in 2005 gives Americans time to celebrate being an American and celebrating our freedom.  This important document, written over two hundred years ago, is a list of rules that our government must follow.  Teaching children about our country allows them to have a better understanding of our great country, the United States of America.

At Phenix Elementary, every teacher shared information about the day with their students. Books such as Constitution Day and We the Kids of the United States were read in the library.  Patriotic songs, including our National Anthem, were listened to in Music Class.  At PE, the students went out to the flagpole and said the Pledge of Allegiance.  An American Flag made with kindergarten students’ handprints and pre-kindergarteners’ and first graders’ thumb prints was displayed in the entrance way of the school. Upper grades focused their efforts on writing activities surrounding rules, learning the three different branches of the National Government and the responsibilities of each branch, and learning the actual words to the Preamble of the Constitution.  Out of the typical school day, we paused and took time to share these various activities with our children so that they would realize the importance and value of living in the United States.
