Phenix Elementary School Observes Veterans Day

Mini flags lined the walkways at Phenix Elementary School on Thursday, November 11th.  Inside the school the national colors - red, white and blue - were seen in every classroom as students, faculty and staff, dressed in honor of our nation's veterans.  A host of activities surrounding Veterans’ Day were conducted throughout the school.  They included reading non-fiction books and poems, completing word searches, listening to patriotic music, watching videos, and completing artwork.  After lunch, all the classes gathered around the flagpole for an assembly.  Mr. Richardson, the principal, talked about Veterans’ Day, it’s importance, and read the poem, "We Owe Them a Lot."  Mrs. Jenna Crawford, a teacher at Phenix and retired Lt. Colonel from the United States Army, was recognized. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and a rendition of the National Anthem was played.  Veterans’ Day is an important holiday.  Please remember to thank a veteran for his or her service to our country.
